Trekking at bukit timah, Singapore

I went to bukit timah on Sunday. Mainly is to explore the trail and gain some elevation. I took train to bukit batok and walked to the bus interchange and took bus 852. Dropped at the stop before beauty world and bukit timah visitor center is just about 300m walking distance.
First, I took the tar road up till the summit, have about 1-2 mins rest before I walked down using the same road. I use the runkeeper application in my iPhone to track the distance and the route, just in case I went lost, at least I know where I started and go back to the main route. It took me about 30 mins to walk up and down the hill which is 163m elevation.
After about 2 mins rest, I started the trekking with trails. Taking south view path with lots of stairs follow by cave path and lead me to catchment path junction, I took the left turn knowing that will lead me to the summit and walk all the way. The catchment path will exit in the middle of main tar road to the summit. Another 40-50m walk, will lead you to the long stair case to the summit. (You can choose to take stairs or tar road for this)
First time tried on the cave path. I spotted two cave and snapped photos for both. I was trekking alone there. Overall still ok as it was a weekend and on and off there were people pass by, at least I am not alone. But advise those who trek alone, remember to save the national park number in your phone, just in case emergency help needed.
For today trekking, I spent about 1hr 28mins. Making loop to summit twice. Overall it's enjoyable. But my advise, if you never taking any of the trail before and you are not a frequent trekking/exercise person, please do listen to your body. Rest if needed. Even you are half way in the stairs, it's ok to just stop and rest, let yourself catch up some air and listen to your own breathing. Just make sure you stay on one side and not blocking others. Why I advise you on this? Well, when I trekked that day, I saw two incident. One lady sprinkle her right foot. Badly injure and she had to use a pole and call the first aid. Second case, I walked passed, there was a girl blackout and lying on the stairs to summit. She was with her friends, amount 7-8 of them and they were making call telling friends about that and waiting for the girl to wake up. When I saw this, I just realized I forgot to bring my small first aid purse where contains of plaster and some oil. If I have it, the oil will really helps.
So do remember do not over push yourself. It's ok to just rest. Take your time. You want to reach the summit but not over push yourself and make it as the last time you visited the place.
Enjoy the trail :D

Delifrance sandwich

Over the weekend I went to delifrance at causeway point basement for my lunch. I ordered eggs and vege and a cup of tea. The tea cost me sgd3.80 and the sandwich is about sgd6.80. Total bill I paid was around sgd12. (So expensive).
Well, after about 10 minutes I placed the ordered, the waiter came and told me they run out of eggs would I like to change to something else. Actually I only want the eggs. But since they don't have any, I just picked ham. The ham sandwich is about sgd7.80 if I am not wrong. But today, I have a free upgrade for the sandwich.
Mmmm, do I like the sandwich? Still ok.
Think back when I am new here, when I am just here in Singapore for my first job, Delifrance is my favorite restaurant, when I got my pay and I want to pampered myself, I will came here and ordered the classic baguette bread set with coffee which was only SGD3.90. Now, with sgd3.90, I no longer can enjoy the nice breakfast and ever since they changed the creamer from fresh milk to a 'Super' brand creamer powder, that is when I stop visit this place for my breakfast.
It's been years.
Well, still wish all happy Makan-ing.

Smith Road, Spicy Food 密斯湘菜馆

Last weekend, my friends brought me to a chinese restaurant in Smith Road, Chinatown. Three of us, we all like the spicy chinese food. My friend did an online reservation which she claimed can get 10% discount which it really does and we visited the place and ordered about 5 dishes.
My find the food is a bit salty but the fish head is my favourite out of all the dishes. We ordered the big fish head and its really big (a full fish head which consist of two half fish head covered by green and red chilli).
Talking about the spicy fish head, I still prefer the one from Chuan Wai 川外. The price from this place is not cheap as well. Even with 10% discount, the total bill is about SGD90.
Overall, good to try but I am sure there are some others more worth the money lying out there in chinatown.
Hope you all enjoy it.

CPF Minimum Sum

Today the CPF board announce that the CPF Minimum sum increase  again due to the inflation and life expectancies.
What is CPF Minimum Sum?  CPF Minimum Sum means that the money you need to set aside when you reach 55 years old  to ensure that you have enough of money for retirement when you reach 65 years old.  YOU can read more about the CPF Minimum Sum here from CPF website. [Details]
But how much is the adjustment from year 2003 till now? I just got curious and started to get the information from CPF website and crunch a chart from the data collected and I get curious, what will be the amount of minimum set aside needed one day if I reach 55? The chart below showing the 10 years from 2003 until 2013. So I just make an assumption, if the yearly inflation rate around 6.5% and the adjustment from CPF board 6.5% each year. Well, seems like I need to set aside 591,497 and the problem is I definitely do not think my CPF able to have such a big sum of money by that time. So what will happen? Then I think my property will be pledge if I do have a property :(

what if cpf minimum sum not enought

Please take note there are two worksheet one with SG meaning Singapore Stock Market & another with MY means Malaysia Stock Market trading.
Another thing to take note is the brokerage, you may change it manually if your brokerage is different with the default provided by the spreadsheet.

Polar 20oz water bottle

Bought a polar water bottle 20oz over the weekend from running lab store at Novena during the Energizer night trail 2013 race pack collections. The water bottle with normal price SGD 18.90 was selling at price SGD 12.90 on that day, which is ~32% off.
I always want to test out this type of water bottle where they claimed its insulated which will able to retain the coolness of the drinks with the insulated layer.
I have yet to test out the water bottle. But overall the bottle design for hand grabbing seems comfortable. I plan to test out the bottle in hot weather one day see how this bottle can serve me well.
Happy shopping

Talk about work

Have you ever explain to someone about your work? Which one you think is the most unforgettable?
Here I would like to share my experience about two years ago. When I went to a bicycle shop to fix the old bike tire. Here is my conversation with one of the worker in the shop.

Staff: what is your work?
Me: I am a programmer
Staff: arh?!
Me: IT
Staff: IT?! (Still looks blank)
Me: computer.
Staff: oh, computer, my friend also work in computer
Me: is it?!
Staff: yes, he work in a factory, they make screen.
Me: oh.. computer screen.
Staff: yeah, you know those? Those looks like TV.
Me: yes, I know.
Staff: you work on screen as well?
Me: no, I am not. But we use it a lot.
Staff: is it? No wonder my friend said he is quite busy and always have to work late, but they got extra pay for it.
Me: (just smile)
